Newcastle Wedding Photographer - The Flawless Photo Blog bio picture

Welcome

My name is James Burns, I'm a wedding photographer based in County Durham but actually covering weddings all over the country. I love photography - it's my passion as well as my work which means that I have the best job in the world and who wouldn't want to have their wedding photographs taken by the guy with the best job in the world? I know I would... I think I'm also supposed to tell you here that I've been taking photo's since I was 4 years old, but that would be a lie. I was definitely a teenager by the time I first picked up a camera and I was well into my 20's before it even occurred to me to pursue it as a career. I hope that that's not too upsetting for anybody.

I'm passionate about photography because it's all about emotions and life. You'll see me smile a lot in my work - it's because I'm noticing little things that constantly amaze me and make me happy. I've been known to cry at some particularly special speeches, but please don't be alarmed as it doesn't ever affect the quality of my images. Photography to me is timeless and classic; each photograph is a tiny slice of time, frozen forever and that you can be returned to whenever you wish. It's like a 2-dimensional Narnia, only you don't have to walk through a wardrobe or wear a fur coat to enjoy it.

Clare & Jamie’s Wedding - Norwood Hall Hotel, Aberdeen

This weekend saw me travelling North of the Border to Aberdeen, for the wedding of Clare and Jamie at Norwood Hall Hotel. Jamie is himself a talented wedding photographer, so I was incredibly flattered to be asked to photograph their wedding.

Clare’s dress was stunning, as were her flowers:Wedding Dress

Norwood Hall itself is a stunning venue, with dark panelled walls and full of character. Here you can see that Jamie looked incredibly distinguished, seated in the library:

The wedding itself was wonderful, just the right mix of emotions:

After the ceremony, the rain even stopped for long enough for us to dash outside and grab some photographs in the grounds!

Though we quickly had to retire back inside when the heavens opened again. It wasn’t a problem though, I’d seen this staircase earlier in the day, and fully intended to use it for some more portrait shots of the happy couple:

The day was a success for all of the guests, both young and old:

and after the meal, Clare & Jamie showed us some particularly fancy moves on the dancefloor! They’d clearly been practicing:

The evening entertainment was provided by an excellent Ceilidh band and the dancefloor was filled all night:

I’m Moving (though not literally)…

This is just a short post to let people know that I’m in the process of migrating all of my current e-mail services to a brand new, bigger, faster, wears-a-cape-and-its-pants-over-its-trousers e-mail server.

The whole process should (hopefully) be transparent but if, for whatever reason, you send me an e-mail and hear nothing back within 48 hours, then please either try dropping me another mail, or contact me using the phone number that’s available on the contact page of my main website.

Scottish Road Trip - The Outer Hebrides

So here I am, in the Outer Hebrides, on the Island of Lewis. After taking the ferry from Uig on Skye, I arrived at Tarbert on Harris (where the tweed comes from!) and had a wonderful drive up through some gorgeous scenery to arrive just outside of Stornoway.

After a bit of a relax and an absolutely fantastic meal at the Digby Chick restaurant, we headed out to have bit of an explore of the local area. Lewis is absolutely stunning - dramatic, wild landscapes, stunning white beaches and a range of wildlife (I’ve already spent an afternoon chasing golden eagles!). There’s definitely a lot to recommend it.

The highlight of my visit to the Western Isles so far, has been a trip to visit the Callanish stone circle. At over 5000 years old, these stones are actually older than Stonehenge (and significantly more remote!), not to mention that they’re set in one of the most dramatic and beautiful settings.

Scottish Road Trip - Leaving Skye

Leaving Skye

Told you that I didn’t stop too long on Skye! Here’s the view looking back as I left…

Scottish Road Trip - Glencoe to Skye

After leaving Glencoe, my drive became much more scenic, not to mention far more sedate. After stopping off at Fort William in the shadow of the Nevis range for supplies and fuel, I continued on, upward and westward. Seeing a sign for the Commando Monument, I pulled in to grab a couple of photographs.

A look back in the opposite direction (with the help of a trig point) shows Ben Nevis in all his glory

Along the way, just beyond Invergarry, the frustrated landscape photographer in me felt moved to pull in and grab a few more photographs. At least I attempted to battle the high sun and harsh light to capture something worthwhile! I managed to stuff these five shots into a workable panoramic…

Eventually, I arrived at the beautiful, not to mention famous, Eilean Donnan Castle. I stopped to take the tour, but not until after I’d stuffed this 25 shot composite HDR image into my camera:

Eilean Donnan Castle

After I was finished at the castle, it was time to move on again - through Kyle of Lochalsh and over the bridge onto Skye. Although I wasn’t able to stop too long, I did get a chance to take in some of the sights, and also to meet friend (and superbly talented photographer), Lynne Kennedy.
