08/11/2008: Victoria & Kieran’s Wedding - The Little Haven Hotel, South Shields

Yesterday saw me travelling to South Shields for my final wedding of 2008, the wedding of Victoria & Kieran at the Little Haven Hotel. Vic is the sister of a former work colleague and that, coupled with the fact that I’m not going to be photographing any more weddings before the new year, made me determined to go out with a big bang!

I met up with Vic, preparing at her Mum’s house after returning from having her hair and makeup done. She’d also received a card from Kieran, and she was busy reading this when I first arrived.

Flowers (along with chair covers and a starlight curtain for the venue!) were provided by the exceptionally talented Flower Boutique of South Shields:

Just as Vic finshed putting her dress on, the clouds shifted, the sun started to break through and the excitement was ever-so slightly noticeable. The dress had a full train that looked absolutely stunning whichever way you looked at it. Vic positively glowed, and barely showed a trace of nerves.

In the meantime, groom Kieran was already at The Little Haven Hotel in South Shields. Some of the evidence that was left lying around the room clearly showed that he’d been doing some last minute preparations! He was joined outside later by Best Man, Mark, and page boy Dylan.

The ceremony itself went off without a hitch. More than one person commented on how emotional Kieran looked as he caught sight of his bride for the first time, though it’s not hard to see why!

The timings of the day ensured that we had plenty of time inbetween the ceremony and the reception for taking photographs of the happy couple. After the group photographs, and a chance to mingle with their guests, I took Vic & Kieran to their honeymoon suite for some photographs of them as a newly-married couple.

After a brief pause, everyone was called through to be seated for the wedding breakfast. The speeches were all very memorable, with Uncle Ken in particular dispensing some invaluable advice in how to keep Vic quiet when trying to watch the football (you need a knitting needle, apparently!)

I realised, after the meal, that I’d not yet managed to grab a picture of Victoria’s wedding shoes. Turned out that I was lucky: She’d already taken them off to give her feet a bit of a rest!

After the meal, and before the evening reception had started, I managed to persuade Vic & Kieran to follow me into the night for a few final portraits. It was starting to rain, the wind was picking up and I think we’d all admit that it was on the cold side, but we managed to grab a few more shots before heading back in!

The evening reception followed in the high spirits of the rest of the day - guests were kept entertained by a great DJ and filled with wonderful food both from the buffet provided by The Little Haven and also from a chocolate fountain. Before everyone was too filled up, the happiest of happy couples took to the floor for their first dance. Some people couldn’t be dragged away from the chocolate however!

Before I left, I was given a reminder of why I love photographing weddings so much: A personalised card from the Bride & Groom, thanking me for my beautiful photographs, before I’d even left the venue! Small touches like that remind me how I know that I’ve got the very best job in the world!

The rest of the photographs will be available in due course, after Vic & Kieran return from their honeymoon. Please contact me if you’d like to be notified when this is.

Clare & Jamie’s Wedding - Norwood Hall Hotel, Aberdeen

This weekend saw me travelling North of the Border to Aberdeen, for the wedding of Clare and Jamie at Norwood Hall Hotel. Jamie is himself a talented wedding photographer, so I was incredibly flattered to be asked to photograph their wedding.

Clare’s dress was stunning, as were her flowers:Wedding Dress

Norwood Hall itself is a stunning venue, with dark panelled walls and full of character. Here you can see that Jamie looked incredibly distinguished, seated in the library:

The wedding itself was wonderful, just the right mix of emotions:

After the ceremony, the rain even stopped for long enough for us to dash outside and grab some photographs in the grounds!

Though we quickly had to retire back inside when the heavens opened again. It wasn’t a problem though, I’d seen this staircase earlier in the day, and fully intended to use it for some more portrait shots of the happy couple:

The day was a success for all of the guests, both young and old:

and after the meal, Clare & Jamie showed us some particularly fancy moves on the dancefloor! They’d clearly been practicing:

The evening entertainment was provided by an excellent Ceilidh band and the dancefloor was filled all night:

Sarah & Rob’s Wedding - Hylands House, Chelmsford

Last week saw me making the long drive down to Essex for the wedding of Sarah & Rob at Hylands House, home of the V festival, near Chelmsford. Despite near-torrential rain, a fantastic day was had by absolutely everyone and no spirits were dampened!. Sarah remained calm throughout, and you can see her here sharing a joke with the bridesmaids:Bridal Photo

She looked absolutely stunning in her dress, as you can see:

Though the bridesmaids were possibly not taking things seriously enough!

Meanwhile, Rob was preparing with brother (and best man) Dan at the house:

Shortly to be joined by Dad, John:

Here you can see that the best man wasn’t only babysitting the groom on his big day:

But the ceremony went off without a hitch in any case:

Both Mum’s looked incredible and also added to the ceremony by performing a reading each. Here you can see Sarah’s Mum, Caroline:

Even the younger guests didn’t seem to be too daunted by the enormity of the occasion!

Sarah & Rob looked absolutely stunning together, and a quick tour of Hylands House allowed me to show two incredibly good-looking people in very good-looking surroundings:

I was also joined on the day by my good friend and trusted assistant Matt Wagster. Not only is he a lighting and logistics genius, he also takes up his camera when he has a spare five minutes and produces fabulous work like this:

The house was simply so fantastic, it was hard not to go over time when I was shooting the formals. The features were stunning:

So were the furnishings, and I’ve always been a sucker for a big mirror!

For some people though, the excitement was just a bit too much:

But, for everybody else, the dancing went on long into the night:

Though there was still time, right at the end of the night, to grab another quick portrait outside, after the worst of the rain had finally decided to ease off:

Sarah & Rob are going on their honeymoon directly, but the rest of their photo’s will be available to view online by the time they return. Please contact me if you’d like to be notified when they are available.

01/08/08 Laura & Pete’s Wedding: The Bridge, Walshford

Friday morning saw me travelling down the A1 to Walshford, near Weatherby, where I was taking the photographs for two more very good friends of mine, Laura & Pete, at their wedding at The Bridge. Despite the early weather seeming threatening, it turned into yet another gorgeous day - I seem to be having a lot of luck with the weather at all of the weddings I’m photographing this year!

Laura wore an absolutely stunning gown by Susan Forth with lace detailing over the boned bodice:

Whilst Pete looked equally striking in his tailored, three-piece suit made especially for the occasion. Despite the ominous look to the sky, the dark clouds soon passed and left us enjoying an absolutely stunning day:

The groom & best man

I’m sure that you’ll agree that Laura looked absolutely stunning in her dress:

And her beautiful bouquet matched the lilac and white colour scheme perfectly:

We became slightly worried just before the ceremony - Pete appeared to have been transfixed, but fortunately it was just Best Man, Dan, proving to Pete that he did have the rings with him!

The ceremony itself was emotional!

After the ceremony I had the opportunity to steal Laura & Pete away for a few minutes to enjoy some photographs of the two of them together around the grounds. I don’t think I’ve ever had the opportunity to photograph a couple who laugh too easily, though I’d like to think that it was my jokes that they were laughing at!

Laura & Pete are currently enjoying their honeymoon, but if you’d like to see the rest of the photographs as soon as they’re ready, please contact me via the website and I’ll send you a link as soon as they’ve been uploaded.

27/07/08 Leah & Jamie’s Wedding: Beamish Hall

Yesterday saw me privileged to photograph the wedding of two very good friends of mine, Leah and Jamie. Jamie was actually partly responsible for me meeting my own wife, and when he asked me to photograph his own wedding, I jumped at the chance.

Leah wore an absolutely beautiful gown that was hand embroidered with gold detail:

Whilst Jamie didn’t look too shabby himself, and was ably assisted by his best man, David:

The wedding started a little late, due to the bridesmaids being stuck in traffic heading towards the Sunderland air show. The ceremony, however, went off without a hitch and I’m sure you’ll agree that they make a wonderful looking couple.

The wedding reception was held at the Beamish Hall Hotel, an absolutely gorgeous venue on such a beautiful day. Most of the guests took full advantage of the lovely weather, whilst I dragged Jamie & Leah away for a short while to cool down for a while!

However, as the sun started it’s descent, I took advantage of some beautiful light to head back outside of the hotel and grab some more photo’s

Once the guests were able to drag themselves out of the garden and into the reception room, the evening’s entertainments were provided by The Music Company. Leah & Jamie claimed to not enjoy dancing in front of a crowd (though knowing Jamie, I’m not sure that that’s true!), but they still took to the floor for the first dance.
